Obituary for Jane Loihle (Stizely)

Jane Loihle of Jensen Beach and formerly of Coatesville, PA, passed away on February 21 after a short illness.

Jane was born Jane Clark Stively in West Grove, PA to John Ewing Stively and Edna Stively. After graduating from high school, she attended the School of Nursing at Presbyterian Hospital in Philadelphia, PA, and was the only member of her class to graduate with both an RN and a Bachelor of Science in Nursing degree. Jane remained very attached to her classmates and the Cadet Corps of the hospital throughout her long life.

Jane and a friend were given by family a trip to Florida to celebrate their graduation, and showing the ability to adapt to new circumstances that many of us knew, she changed her life plans on that trip. She met a true gentleman, eventually to be her husband, while he was fishing. That man, George Phillips, worked as First Cook on a steamboat that plied the Great Lakes. Jane joined him as Second Cook, but she did some additional work as a private-duty nurse for many years when their schedules allowed.

George built a cabana in Ocean Breeze Park, and Jane and he spent winters there, with summers on the Great Lakes or with her family in Pennsylvania. In Jensen Beach they attended Jensen Beach Community Church and joined the church in 1966. She celebrated her fiftieth anniversary in the church in 2016; Jane liked to celebrate by going to a local chain restaurant, where she would often have her strawberry shortcake after the soup "so I don't get filled up before I can enjoy it."

George passed away in 1985, and Jane spent the great majority of her time in Jensen Beach from that point. While playing pinochle one evening, she met Bill Loihle and they were married in 1990. Sadly, Bill passed away a year later.

Jane remained active in many pursuits, including the church, time with friends including The Lunch Bunch, time watching baseball (her affection for the Marlins eventually overtook her feeling for the Phillies,) and connections with both her family of origin and those of her dear friends. Her physical health slowed her down, but mentally she was sharp throughout her life.

She will be missed by us all.

Memorial services will be conducted at Jensen Beach Community Church at 3900 NE Skyline Drive, Jensen Beach, on Monday, February 27, at 11 AM with refreshments and fellowship after. Donations in lieu of flowers may be made to Jensen Beach Community Church. -
