Maryann E  Stow
Maryann E. Stow, 61, of Hobe Sound, FL crossed over November 22, 2016 from Harper House at Treasure Coast Hospice in Stuart,FL.

Born October 22, 1955 in New Haven, CT, she was the daughter of John James Ahearn and Dawn Janet Lecuyer Ahearn. She grew up in Lancaster, PA and resided in Wellfleed, MA and Oneonta, NY before moving to Hobe Sound in March 2015.

Maryann had a background in traditional and representational watercolor, collaging with Asian and decorative paper and stamps and stencils, using them in her work with increasing frequency, sometimes combined with watercolor as mixed media. Additionally, she enjoyed working with acrylics and paint En Plein Air.

Maryann majored in studio art at the State University of New York at Oneonta in the 80's. Between 1988 and 2000, she attended workshops at Castle Hill Center for the Arts in Truro, MA and at the Provincetown (MA) Art Association with Cape and visiting artists. She was an art mentor and art instructor in MA and NY throughout her career, beginning in 1993. In 2007 and 2008 she attended week-long visionary art intensives with Alex and Allyson Grey at Omega Institute.

Maryann was proud to be a descendent of the Micmac Tribe. She practiced Shamanism and had attended Healing the Light Body School, The Four Winds Society in 2008-2009.

In 2011, Maryann exhibited in Cooperstown Art Association's annual "Essential Art" and received the Carefree Gardens' award. She was included in their annual invitational show, "Fur, Fins & Feathers” and was part of a four-woman exhibit, "Four Queens", at Studio Dionysus in Gilbertsville, NY.

Maryann participated in the Canandaigua Plein Air Competition in June 2012 and had a solo exhibit, "The Beauty of Lake Atitlan", in November at the Community Arts Network of Oneonta (formerly UCCCA) in the Wilbur Mansion featuring her plein air and studio works from her 2010 Guatemala trip. She also had a few pieces in Cooperstown Art Association's invitational Miniature Show, "Bite-Sized", in June and July. Maryann received the second place award for watercolors at Colorscape Chenango Arts Festival.

In 2013, she had a solo show of recent selected works at the Autumn Cafe in Oneonta and a piece included in Cooperstown Art Association's annual regional "Essential Art" show. Maryann also exhibited several pieces in CAA's Annual Miniature Invitational Show, "Postcards from Cooperstown", and was awarded third place in the acrylics, oils & pastel division at the Central Adirondack Art Show. She was a participating artist in the 18th Annual Stagecoach Run Arts Festival in Treadwell, NY and in the City of the Hills Art Festival in Oneonta, where she was awarded first place for the fine arts division.

In 2014 she returned to the 19th Annual Stagecoach Run Art Festival, the 6th Annual Woodworking & Fine Arts Weekend in Northville, NY and the City of the Hills Arts Festival in Oneonta, NY. Maryann also had another month-long solo exhibit in August at the Autumn Café, Oneonta, featuring her personal collection of work over the years. She also illustrated the book cover for Walking the Heart Path- Artists and Advocates in the Global Market.


In Florida she participated in Martin County Arts Council's 'Artsfest', joined the Plein Air Painters of the Lighthouse Art Center of Jupiter and Stuart Green Market's weekly Sunday food and craft event.

Maryann is survived by her son, Cody Stow and his wife Leah Fortier, their children Ari Stow Fortier and Shilo Stow Fortier; son, Gabriel Stow; mother, Dawn Ahearn; sister, Kathy Ahearn; brothers, John M. Ahearn, Richard Ahearn and wife Mary, Joseph Ahearn and wife Denise, Paul Ahearn and Matthew Ahearn. She was preceded in death by her father, John James Ahearn.
