Betty Marie Saunders, 76 of Stuart, FL passed away Friday, October 14, 2016 at Brookdale Jensen Beach.
Born June 17, 1940 in Jamesport, MO, she was the daughter of the late Walter and Mabel (Purdy) Stoller. Betty graduated from Tri-County High School Class of 1957 and enjoyed attending class reunions over the years until shortly before her illness.
She received her Bachelor’s of Music and Master’s of Music degrees from The Eastman School of Music in Rochester, NY. In addition to many years of teaching Betty also started Walker Music School & Peak Performance Training, famous Accordion orchestras and traveled throughout Europe. She taught at Monroe Community College and Mercy HS in Rochester, NY. Betty was instrumental in writing the speaking course curriculum at MCC.
She was a decorated member of Toastmasters International and authored “You Are the Music Discovering God’s Plan for Your Life”.
In 1986, she married William Saunders and in 2003 they moved to Stuart, FL. She was an active member of North Stuart Baptist Church, where she was a member of the choir and the Treasure Coast Singers. In Florida, she taught at The Pine School in Hobe Sound.
In addition to her parents, Betty is preceded in death by her husband, William Saunders.
Survivors include her sister, Dorothy Borst; brother, Jerry Stoller; nephew, Jeff Borst and his family; step children, David, Michael and Susan (Smith); and step grandchildren, Cameron and Sidney Smith.
A Memorial Service will be at 11 AM, Monday, October 24, 2016 at North Stuart Baptist Church, with a luncheon following at the church. A private family service will be in the spring and she will be buried at The Chrystal Cathedral Memorial Gardens next to her husband.
Memorial contributions in Betty’s memory may be made to Treasure Coast Hospice, who cared for Betty and her husband, William in their final days, 1201 SE Indian St., Stuart, FL 34997.
